Its a beautiful Friday, clear skies - it maybe a bit warm but we are more than ready to see a show tonight at Stafford Motor Speedway. The Modified Touring Series truck and trailer rolled in early this morning ready to get the day going. The expected field is a talented one and it should be a great 100 green flag lap race later today.
This week we where a bit busy and made the trip out to Seekonk on Wednesday night to watch the Pro Stocks race 200 laps to win $10,000. It was set up as a two part feature with the Street Stock Sportsmen 30 lap feature in the middle. The Pro Stocks ran 100 laps, they had a break and ran the other feature in the middle and came out for the second 100 laps. The first section was a bit slower in the action, as it looked that most of they guys where saving for the 'second phase' so to say. The race got interesting with about thirty laps to go. They started throwing it side ways in the corners to try to hold positions and began to use the bumper to 'nudge' and move the guys in front of them to the outside so they could make their moves to the front. It was a decent finish and really can not complain when ever we get to hit a mid week show - racing is racing and way better than sitting at home even if all the cars had fenders...Congratulations to Derek Griffith on his win followed by Garrett Hall, Derek Ramstrom, Eddie MacDonald, David Darling took down P5 followed by, Travis Benjamin, Mark Brightman, Joey Pole, Reid Lanpher and Kyle Casper would round out the top ten finishers.
In the Legends 25 lap feature Ryan Kuhn would be the winner followed by Joseph Marfeo, Brandon Martinez, Austin Teras and Jesse Jakubajtyst to round out the top five. The 30 lap sportsman feature left Chad Baxter with the pole followed by John Hanafin, Paul Lallier, Ryan Flood and Vinny Pangelinan.
On to today's excitement, the MTS is holding their second race of the season at Stafford Motor Speedway and the first race that falls with in the Chase. There are twelve drivers that are now qualified for and in the Chase and are eligible for the $10,000 Sunoco Quest For The Cup to win at the last race. They where qualified either by winning a race or by points. As the races go on from this point forward it will leave five drivers who are eligible going into the last race. In the last race those five will be starting on an even playing field and any of them will be able to win the big pay out. It will be left up to those five in that race, who ever has the best finishing place at the end of the night will be the winner of the Quest for the Cup and will take home that $10,000. The drivers that are qualified for the chase are as follows; Ryan Preece, John McKennedy, Tommy Barrett Jr., Rowan Pennink, Chris Pasteryak, Woody Pitkat, TJ Bleau, Les Hinckley, Eric Goodale, Andrew Molleur, Richard Savery and Kirk Alexander. Out of those drivers both TJ Bleau and Andrew Molleur are in the running for rookie of the year.
The chase format is going to lead to some great racing with in the race. In all of these races it wont just be guys looking for points, they are going to be looking to find their place in that last race for $10,000. This race will likely be full of great moves as these guys are looking to make sure they are qualified for that $10,000 at the end of the year. If we had to guess these races will get better and better as this chase format heats up. Out of these drivers almost any of them could end up winning at the end of the season. If you are not planning on being here tonight, we would strongly urge you to come out and check it out. Gary and Alichia Knight have worked hard to get the MTS series to this point along with EXIT Realty and have done a great job of listening to the drivers, tracks and fans to try to bring the best racing they can. We are banking on not only will the MTS be a good race but the weekly divisions have been putting on a great show as well this year. The weekly show for the SK is a strong group and always puts on a great show. The SK Lights always put on a show that you dont want to miss either. So far this year there has been some good racing at Stafford and we are hopeful that tonight will be more of the same.
After tonight we will pack up the campers and we will head south to the New-London Waterford Speedbowl for their weekly show Saturday night. It always proves to be a great show, a full night of racing and action - for more information on Waterford Click HERE.
It will be a blast for all so bring your family and friends to the shore line oval and we hope to see all of you there as well!! As always, #ModOn!!
