Woody Pitkat will have a ride for the Stafford 150 Whelen Modified Tour Aug 4th race. He has teamed up again with familiar faces to makes this deal happen so he can be there for his hometown show. Steve Greer and Danny Stebbins will come together to help make this possible. The news came out last week that Woody Pitkat and Goodie Motorsorts would be parting ways.
Pitkat would go on to tell us about the parting of ways with him and the #46 Whelen Tour team.
“The chemistry was not there, you see it from the top tiers of racing on the way down with driver and crew changes. The chemistry has to be there, you need the whole package to make it work. It was fun while it lasted and it was a good opportunity and I appreciate everything they did. But unfortunately at the end of the day we just could not make the chemistry work”
Greer of Gunsmoke stables bought a near new Troyer from the Solomito camp for Pitkat, it will be powered by a Yates spec Engine. It was originally purchased for Woody to run the MTS and Tri Track. Woody has worked with "Gun Smoke Stables" over the years and won a Stafford SK championship with them. They have supported Woody right along whether it be supplying engines, chassis or sponsorship for Woody Pitkat while driving for other teams.
“He [Greer] has been an awesome supporter of mine and very generous over the years to me. He had been watching the MTS and Seeing Ryan [Preece] and Eric [Goodale] and those guys with the Troyer and Spec combos doing well, he wanted to find me a Troyer chassis and Spec engine to run the MTS [EXIT Realty Modified Touring Series] with. After the deal with the #46 [Goodie Motorsports] fell through he said he has been thinking about getting his “feet wet” with the Whelen NASCAR Tour anyways and wanted to see how NASCAR works. In Case one day down the road he [Greer] would like to do it. So with Stafford being my home track and coming up fast we all decided to give this a try” explains Pitkat to Mod Squad Racing Media.
Danny Stebbins owner of the #52 MTS/MRS/Tri Track team and Craig Sessions also strong supporters of Pitkat will be partners in this venture to get Pitkat on the track for Stafford Aug 4. They are housing and maintaining the car as well as helping with scaling and setup along with providing the hauler as well. The crew will be a combination of members from both racing camps that are familiar with Woody and his style. “It’s a really, really nice car. Its like brand new the frame rails underneath look brand new, it was only run like three times. It looks like it just came from the chassis manufacture. It’s wicked nice!” Pitkat excitingly explains.
This is a deal that was put together for Stafford to keep him in the game on the tour and to be there for the hometown crowd. They will see how it goes but the car was originally bought for MTS and Tri Track type shows. The funding is not there as well to finish the full time Whelen Tour season. Woody is still looking for a main sponsor and/or a full time ride to finish of his Whelen season as he is currently in the top 10 in points.
This deal was put together quick by strong supporters of Pitkat in hopes it would by some time for Pitkat to get a full time ride and stay in the points. “Right now were are going to take it one race at a time, without getting more sponsors and help we will never be able to go to Bristol and probably Oswego will be tough too….” Pitkat would tell us with disappointment in his voice. This team is looking for any help they can get, from a main sponsor jumping on board with this veteran wheelman and team to anyone who might help with pit pass's/licenses, tires etc. They would be very appreciative of any help they can get. The team for this car will be called “Gun Smoke-Stebbins” The chemistry is there for all these guys, they have a history and work well together. “We are on the same page, we communicate well when I need adjustments before we even talk we are thinking the same thing” Woody says about working with his 52 team. “I go to the race track to win, But I would be happy with a top 10, top 5 run for our first time out with this car and deal at Stafford for this race”
Right now they have some help for this Stafford 150 from Dunleavys Truck and Trailer Repair, BA Muzio Plumbing and Heating, JRI Shocks and West County Equipment. They will be also running the number 52 on the car for the Whelen tour. When asked about the “number 52” Woody would tell us what it meant to him. “It has been in my family since I was born, my uncle used to run the #52 at Lebanon Valley, he ran the tour back in the day with the #52 I think too so its pretty cool.”
Woody has always been a top wheelman in anything he has run, he is a class act and is great with the fans and kids. When the chemistry and equipment both are there he has proven many times he can get it done behind the wheel. We wish him the best of luck with this deal and hopefully he can get a full time deal done with a ride and find some help with sponsors. Woody will be running the Tri Track Race this Saturday at Star Speedway in Epping New Hampshire. Get on out and check out this start studded field for the SBM 125. Until the next green flag drops #ModOn RG
