STAFFORD CT: Last week at Stafford they held their weekly racing schedule and back to school bash. In the SK Eric Berndt took home the win and Ronnie Williams is still currently the point leader over Rocco, after a controversial race after Rocco would make contact to Williams and send and him spinning ultimately where both would find themselves working from the rear of the field. Williams would still finish ahead of Rocco and maintain his point lead. For the Call Before You Dig Late Model extra distance race Paul Arute won the race. In the SK Light division Teddy Hodgdon took down his first ever win in a SK Light. He has shown to be making an excellent transition into the lights and we expect that is just the start of many more to come for him and his team. In the Limited Late Models Justin Bren won for the second time this season and the Street Stocks Nicole Chambrello came out with the win for her second time this year as well.
This week the Valenti Modified Touring Series will be pulling into Stafford Motor Speedway for their last event there this season. This is the third consecutive week of racing for the VMRS series. They where at Waterford two weeks ago and Monadnock last week where Todd Patnode won the 100 lap event. Also on the podium at Monadnock was Brian Robie in second and Sam Rameau in third. Following them was Dowling in the Casella #25 and Woody Pitkat.
Going into Stafford the point lead is still with Anthony Nocella (368) but close behind is Sam Rameau (350) and Mike Willis Jr (334). In fourth is Pitkat (333) and fifth Richard Savary (256). At this point it looks like the points battle will be tight right to the end of the season. It should be a good race tonight as there are 29 cars on the entry list for the Lincoln Tech 80 including all the points leaders along with Chase Dowling who will be back in the 25 as Rowan Pennink announced his retirement earlier this week. Also on the list Andrew Molleur will be back in the Ted Anderson number one car, Anthony Flannery, Joey Cipriano, Eric Goodale and Keith Rocco.
Also racing tonight is Claremont Speedway. Its a beautiful day for a ride up north to watch some great racing at a cool facility. If you are looking for some dirt action Albany Saratoga runs on Friday nights as well.
OSWEGO NY: This weekend the Whelen Modified Tour will be back on track out at the Steel Palace. The Classic weekend is always a great time and a good show. The race is 150 laps on the .625 mile track and the entry list shows 27 registered drivers. Going into this race Justin Bonsignore has about as much momentum as any driver could ask for. The #51 team is not only coming off a win at Bristol but Bristol marked their sixth win of the season and pushed them a bit further into the points lead.
Going into this race Justin Bonsignore has a lead over Chase Dowling by 64 points. Following Dowling is Timmy Solominto at 96 back, Doug Coby at 108 back and Craig Lutz also 108 points back from the lead. Following them is Rob Summers, Rowan Pennink, Eric Goodale, Dave Sapienza and Ronnie Williams rounds out the top ten. The 3 team announced this week that Matt Swanson will be behind the wheel of Ole Blue with Rowan Pennink taking a step back from racing. Swanson jumped into the car at Thompson and had a very impressive second place finish. He will be one to watch at Oswego. We also would not count out Chase Dowling. He has been so close to victory lane too many times this season for his first win not to fall soon. Coby has been strong as of late and you cannot count out Hirshman who has many laps at the Steel Palce or McKennedy as they are both competitive drivers where ever they race.
WATERFORD CT: The weather is looking beautiful for the second week in a row out here in Southern New England and Waterford is ready to get another great show in this week. Last week they got all the racing in and in a very timely fashion with improving car counts. They had seven divisions along with a bus race and bus demo to finish off the night. In the SK race Kyle James showed a strong win once again. For the SK Lights Burroughs was able to hold off Puleo for the win coming out of four. Al Stone III won in the Sportsman division with Canfield continuing his very strong season with another win this past week. In the trucks Plemons was able to grab his first win ever. Churchill won the Legends race and Richardi was the winner in the CT Pro 4 race.
On the schedule this weekend is the SK, twin Late models (one is a make up from 8/18/18), twin truck races for 25 laps each, Sportsman, Legends, Mini Stocks and a compact/Mid-Size Enduro to end the night.
Also racing on Saturday Seekonk will be holding their Labor day Thrill Show! They always put on a good show with lots of action. The show will include Spectator Drags, Car and Truck enduros, Powder Puff races, Crazy Figure 8 Race and fireworks. Gates will open at 2:30 with the show starting at 5pm.
Lebanon Valley will also be holding a big show Saturday night. Mr Dirt is in town with a $25,000 to win big block feature. Lebanon Valley always puts on a show and we have never walked out of there disappointed. They put on a show while keeping cost down on their concessions, admission and beer. IF you have never been its worth planning a trip up!
With this beautiful weather and the season excitement ramping up as the dates and winding down we hope you all get out there and take in a race this weekend. Support your local tracks and drivers!! #ModOn #ShortTrackNation MT
