Memorial Day Modified Madness! Stafford's Open 80 & Claremont Hosts Tri-Track. Lebanon Valley Big Blocks and Monadnock Opens With GSPSS, Sportsmen Mods And More.

STAFFORD SPRINGS CT- Stafford Motor Speedway.  Earlier this season we were all disappointed with the rain-outs but there is a silver lining to all the date changes.  Tonight at Stafford Motor Speedway we are in for a stacked night of Modified action.  The Open 80 had to be pushed back due to the Spring Sizzler rain-outs leaving us with not only The first Open 80 but it is also Dunleavy's Night so that means 40 laps for the SK Lights too.  Tonight's show will feature six divisions of racing in all.  The Street Stocks will compete for 20 laps, Limited Late Models for 15, Late Model for 30 laps and SK Modifieds for their normal 40 lap feature.  The SK Lights are racing for big money and will go double the length with 40 laps tonight.

Doug Dunleavy's modifiedz night features both the longest race for the SK Lights this season and the highest payout.  There is over $10,000 in the purse for this event.  The winner will be taking home $2,025 of that which is by far the largest payout this division sees.  There are also three envelope giveaways that the top three finishers will get as a bonus in victory lane.  Dunleavy has done a lot to push to make this event a great place for the SK Lights to be showcased. "The envelopes will al have a card with the prize inside, that way the drivers can't feel the cash, scratch tickets ect" Doug told Mod Squad as he laughed. Dunleavy is very excited about this event and the very large field expected of SK Lites.  They are a competitive division and draw a crowd.  It is awesome to see them get the spotlight for a night and be able to put on a true extra distance show for the fans. We agree with many that this division should run 30 laps weekly.

Going into tonight Mark Bakaj is leading the points with Mikey Flynn behind him at 8 points back, the rookie driver Steven Chapman is only 10 points back from the lead in the third place slot.  Fourth down to tenth place is as follows Noah Korner 12 back; Joey Ferrigno (-22); Alexander Pearl (-30); Bryan Narducci (-32); Teddy Hodgdon (-34); Jonathan Puleo, also a rookie (-38); Wesley Prucker (-38). Lots of strong drivers in the SK Lite division so it could be anyone's game for Dunleavy's Modifiedz win.

Tonight's headliner maybe a toss between the show we expect to see out of the SK Lights and the Open 80 event.  The Open tour mods put on a show last year and the entry list looks to be strong with well over 30 cars entered for tonight's event.  Drivers listed to be competing include former winners of the Open events in Eric Goodale and Tommy Barrett.  Also, entered are several other strong drivers some of which have been past winners or champions.  To list a few of the drivers entered that have been strong at Stafford in the past in either an open show or their respective divisions; Chase Dowling, Andrew Molleur, Joey Cipriano, Dave Etheridge, Mark Bakaj, Todd Owen, Richard Savary, Matt Galko, Michael Gervais, Jr.(who is the current SK points leader at Stafford), Ronnie Williams, Marcello Rufrano, Max Zachem and Keith Rocco.  Jeff Gallup is coming of his MRS win from last week at Lee as well is in the #4.

Regardless if they are veteran tour type modified drivers or if they are still new to the game there is a lot of talent expected to be on the track tonight. It is too hard to even make a prediction with the names. Andy Jankowiak was exspected but will not be able to make it. Though hard to call these three veterans and in todays racing world they have probulally moved past the "young gun" stnadards, many are looking forward to Chase Dowling, Ronnie Williams and Tommy Barrett all running and battling together at The track where they cut their teeth.  For a full list of entered cars you can click HERE.

The Event is scheduled to start at with qualifying races at 6pm tonight 5/24/ with the general admission gates opening at 5:15 pm.  Tonight's ticket for the Open Mod 80/Dunleavy's Modifiedz Night are $30 for adults, $5.00 for kids 6-14, and  5 & under free.

WINCHESTER NH- Monadnock Speedway: Saturday is Monadnock’s opener for 2019, with construction delays it was pushed back a few weeks but now its game time. Many are excited about all the changes and improvements being made, one major being the new grand stands. The Granite State Pro Stocks will be headlineing the show for their 100 lap feature. The GSPSS is coming off their 150 lap race from LEE Speedway last week and are ready to put on a show at the high banked bull ring of Monadnock. Madogs weekly divisions will also be running. 15 LAPS YOUNG GUNS, 25 LAPS MINI STOCKS, 25 LAPS LATE MODEL SPORTSMAN, 25 LAPS STREET STOCKS, 50 LAPS SPORTSMAN MODIFIEDS, 25 LAPS PURE STOCK. Monadnock is nestled in the hills of NH  right over the MA line on 91 it is a short drive about a hour and a half from Hartford CT and makes for a nice little trip.

WEST LEBANON NY- Lebanon Valley Speedway: For those needing their dirt fix Lebanon Valley should take car of it for you. There is nothing like seeing the Big Block Modifieds fly around the high banks of this half mile dirt track. It puts on great racing and is extremely affordable from grand stands $11, tower and roof seating $16, to the pits $20- $24. Much of the food is home made and great, also priced very, very fair! If you have never seen Big Block mods on dirt we highly suggest you do! They run Big Block mods, Small Block Mods, Sportsmen Mods, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks and 4cyl at the Valley of Speed. Also about an Hour and a half drive from Hartford up route 90 MASS Pike in the beautiful Berkshires and a real scenic drive in eastern NY.  Practice at 4:00 heats around 5:00 and features follow after.

CLAREMONT NH- Claremont Speedway: Sunday we will see the first event for The Tri-Track Modified Series run at Claremont Speedway. Tri-Track is known for the great fields of top drivers it draws along with some great racing and big crowd draws. Teamed up again with Claremont a great little track in NH, it provides great racing and great hospitality for all. We thoroughly enjoyed our visits last year to this cool facility that put on some exciting racing all throughout the events. The atmosphere is very fun along with its friendly staff, management and local fans! With the recent forming of the New Hampshire Short Track Racing Association and the involvement of Norm Wrenn in the ownership/management of multiple NH tracks it has made for some great changes and opportunities. We see the NH tracks working together now in many ways, two main ones being rules and scheduling. And because of this and Monadnocks postponement of their original opening day, Tri-Track was rescheduled to this Sunday at Claremont since Saturday is Monadnocks opener with the Granite state Pro Socks along with weekly divisions.

But even better is the very fair price of $20 grandstand admission tickets purchased for Monadnock on Saturday May 25 will also allow ticket holders FREE admission to Claremont on Sunday, May 26 for Tri-Track at Claremont by just showing their Monadnock Speedway ticket stub. What a great way to introduce fans to this great track and help out the fans pockets some as well. We strongly suggest many take up this opportunity and while doing so show your support at Claremont for the free admission (with Monadnock stub) and check out the great food, souvenirs and very nice beer garden with a great view of the track to watch from! Tri-Track is also known for its great pay outs, this one is 7,000 to win with last place in the A main feature paying $1,200.  With nearly 40 cars entered and lots of big names we can bet on great heat races, a great B-main and one hell of of a A main.Practice starts at 2:00, heats at 5:00 and features approx 6:15. Do not forget Monday is a holiday so enjoy yourself Sunday night at a race!

Drivers like Whelen Tour regulars Woody Pitkat (in the Mertz #6), Ron Silk (#50S), Sam Rameau, Matt Swanson, Calvin Carroll. Tri-Track Champion Matt Hisrschman, Star Tommy Barrett and regulars Mike Holdridge, Richard Savary, Les Hinckley, Kirk Alexander. Stafford drivers Ronnie Williams, Todd Owen and Matt Galko. MRS drivers Jeff Gallup, Brian Robie, Camron Sontag, Carl Medeiros Jr,. Making the long drives will be Anthony Sesely from Wall NJ, Andy Jankowiak from Western NY and Jon Kievman from FL. NH drivers Russ Hersey, Todd Patnode, and last years winner Mike Willis Jr. Just to highlight a few entered. This should be a great show and well worth the little drive to this fun facility to see some of the country's best drivers battle it out on this racy little track. Straight up 91 it is 2 hours from Hartford CT.

With lots of great racing all over this weekend, we can not forget the meaning of this holiday weekend and Monday. Though it can be easy sometimes to get lost in the BBQ’s, outside activity's, picnics, games and of course races. We need to stop for a second and reflect on Memorial Day itself and those that made the ultimate sacerfice so we can enjoy all of these things with friends and family. We just wanted to thank all those that did for us along with all those that have served and are still serving in this country's military.

Until the next green flag drops RG&MT #ModOn #ShortTrackNation
